Do you have any old photographs or pictures of Pershore and/or any of the villages round about that we could copy and use for the Quest? We encourage heritage detectives to find the location of an old image and look at it as it is today. The task is to discover what is different and what is the same, this way we can introduce the idea of change and that it is happening all the time.
If you have an image you would be happy for us to use please email sandymarchant@uwclub.net with the details and she will get back to you with instructions as to what to do next and a copy of our "Permission to Use" form that we would require you to complete. Many thanks.
Go West has an ongoing need for good quality images that are copyright free or which we have been given written permission to use. Many will be used online in The Time Traveller's Guide and in our workshops and other activities.
In 2015 we shall be widening the scope of the smart phone app that has been created for us by Olly John a former Pershore High School student now at University in Leicester and is currently being trialled. We intend that it will eventually cover the whole of the ancient Pershore Hundred as well as the modern District of Wychavon and the Anglican deanery of Pershore., they are NOT coterminous! This will take a little while. The Parish Master List includes all the parishes involved but we have identified the ones we shall be dealing with first.
When Heritage Detectives take part in a heritage quest they need to find out more about what they see around them The information they discover will help them to solve their
quest. This means that the Heritage Knights must be one step ahead of them and have the information easily available - hence The Time Traveller’s Guide. Many of the images produced will be
used as illustrations in The Time Traveller's Guide.
The Time Travellers Guide will include a Gazetteer of ancient Parish Churches, an Information Library and a collection of old maps and photographs. As you can imagine good clear photographs are vital to the success of this Guide.
.
PHOTOGRAPHS WE NEED
In and around the Parish Church.
Many heritage detectives start their explorations in the parish church. This is because they tell the story of a place. Specific images are needed to ensure that heritage detectives are able to start to their discovery of the story of a place
Architecture - We need images that show changes in architectural style, expressed particularly in the doors and windows, towers and some interesting walls. most of these will be external shots but take a look inside too.
Memorials to local people. These people are likely to be the movers and shakers in the community. Sometimes they have left money in their wills for the benefit of the Parish and the Heritage Knights use this information in their Workshop on "The Parish and it People" for this they need clear images that show the text on the memorial, especially if they refer to the place where the inhabitant lived. If you come across an occasion like this please follow it up in the community by capturing the property today.
Stained glass that tell stories or include the name of the donor - again explore this and see if you can marry the name with the place.
Fonts-Fonts are highly significant in our storytelling so an image. or more than one image if it is the font is highly decorated.
Anything else that takes your eye in the church you are recording.
Out and about in the Parish
Listed buildings/old buildings, farm houses and farm buildings. - please take these images from the public highway or a public footpath and remember they need to be recognised by young people who may be considerably smaller than you!
Place names, house names and street names. We need Clear images that tell a story or that preserve the community memory. e.g. Manor houses, mills, names of trees etc. - just think about what lies behind the decision to use a particular name.
Anything which incorporates a date, or a public building, a chapel, school etc.
Unusual things that take your eye and causes you to wonder "Would Arthur recognise this? ( Arthur is our time traveller who comes from the early 13th century!)
Roads, railways, canals, bridges etc.
HOW WE NEED THE PHOTOGRAPHS
On disc in camera raw and as prepared and optimised images for our web site. They should be accompanied by the name of the image, the name of the photographer, the date taken. A grid reference also helps. We can let you have a copy of our logo to insert when you prepare the image for optomisation.
We ask that you give us the copyright or right to use on our Permission to Use Form. We will acknowledge the photographer/Group online.
Pictures used in The Time Traveller’s Guide will all be stamped "Go West" (see http://www.heritagedetectives.org/quests/explore-with-arthur/spot-these-5/
TIMETABLE. We are working toward an Easter 2015 deadline for the first trench of images. As you can imagine this project will probably go on as long as we keep discovering information. Photographs will always be needed!.
ORGANISATION
Individual images can be sent by email but we prefer to receive a clearly marked disc for storage purposes.
Please download and use our Permission to Use Form. Thank you.

MY PARISH TODAY
All Go West heritage activities start with what can be seen around us today. We hope to encourage curiosity and develop looking and recording skills in young heritage detectives. They will be out spotting things and wondering about them ready to make wonder cards. or answer specific questions.
MY PARISH IN THE PAST
For every wonder point we need information. Volunteers with an interest in information gathering will be collecting information about every parish taking part in the project, hopefully
that information will make it possible to create a wonder card for every wonder point.
MY PARISH CHURCH
For each of these periods Go West can give you some important starting points, much of the information is available online.
