When you hear the word 'parish' what does it mean to you? Do you mean the parish with the Parish Council or the Parish with the Parochial Church Council? Confusing isn't it. Sometimes, but not always the boundaries of the two types of parish are the same, at other times they are not. They were the same until the Local Government Act of 1884. Before that local government took place in the Vestry and that was mostly in the Parish Church. Parish Officers were elected at the annual parish meeting, they included the church wardens, the poor law, the constable and othe community officers.
In this project we are looking at local history and the heritage left behind by previous generations so of course thats both parishes, so everybody is welcome! If you would like to volunteer to discover more about your parish, wichever you choose, download, complete, and return a volunteer registration for now!
